Application for Free NEMA Premium™ Motors

The Motor Resource Center (MRC) wishes to place NEMA Premium™ motors in NC, NY, and CA industries while testing the displaced, older motors in an accredited lab. Savings and paybacks will be calculated providing powerful case study information to promote wider adoption of premium efficiency motors. The MRC is a partnership between Advanced Energy Corporation (Raleigh, NC) and the Washington State University Energy Program. Learn more about the MRC at www.motorresourcecenter.org.

To obtain between 5 and 20 new, premium efficiency motors in your facility, fill out the form below. Please note the Qualifying Motor Specifications and Program Rules below. At least 5 qualifying motors must be included to qualify for this offer. Someone will contact you within 3 days of your submission.

 
Qualifying Motor Specifications (Replacement motors will match these)
  • 50, 75, 100, or 150 HP; Standard frame sizes (see note below)
  • More than 10 years old.
  • 480 Volt; 4 pole (nominal 1800 rpm), NEMA Design B
  • Horizontal, Foot mounted, TEFC
  • Minimum 4000 hr/year
  • Constant speed - no Adjustable Speed Drive; Relatively constant, high load

  Program Rules
  1. The Motor Resource Center (MRC) will arrange to have new NEMA Premium motors shipped to Facility. Facility must agree to replace old motor with new NEMA Premium motor within 60 days of receipt of motor.
  2. Facility pays for all motor installation costs. The installation shall include placement of an inline Run-Hour-Meter, provided by MRC. This RHM can generally be installed in the existing switchgear cabinet. Facility agrees to read RHMs quarterly for one year and provide readings to MRC. MRC will contact facility one week before readings are due.
  3. As with all new motors, they will be warranteed by the manufacturer. MRC is not liable for motor failures.
  4. Facility will palletize or otherwise prepare the old motors for pickup by shipper and is responsible for arranging shipping. The MRC will pay shipping costs of the new NEMA Premium to the Facility; however, the Facility is responsible for any costs incurred in shipping the old motors to Advanced Energy.
  5. Facility agrees to allow energy savings data to be publicized by MRC, Department of Energy (major funder), and other project participants. (Contact MRC for a full list of project participants. Contact info below.) Publicity WILL NOT INCLUDE any information deemed to be proprietary by facility. Publicity will include general description of application (pump, fan, conveyor, etc…, hours of operation, new and old motor efficiency and other information relevant to projection of energy savings).
  6. Facility agrees to allow Advanced Energy, Washington State University, or another representative of the MRC to enter the facility and verify in situ operation of all motors listed on the application, prior to removal, and record speed and input power with portable instruments.
